Couples Therapy

“In most marriages, one or both partners resist the idea of counseling. Some can’t afford it or find it inconvenient. And many view therapy as a last resort-something only desperate couple need.” (Tara Parker-Pope, New York Times) In my experience as a couples therapist for two decades, a couple’s fear of coming to therapy is dramatically reduced after attending one session. As is typical, the imagined unknown is more anxiety provoking than the reality.

Counseling gives couples the opportunity to engage in a process of healing, adjusting and learning.

Group Therapy

Group Work, as part of one’s ongoing therapy, can be an essential ingredient for real change to occur. For many years, I have said that individual work is the foundation for one’s therapy and group work is the laboratory.

Currently, I facilitate two ongoing psychodynamic psychotherapy groups, each meeting weekly and comprised of both men and women of diverse ages and backgrounds. As individuals complete their therapeutic process, openings occur in the ongoing groups. As the need arises, additional short term groups are formed with a specific focus.

Therapy For Individuals

It has been said that for change to truly occur, two things have to happen; repetition and emotional impact. Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis provide you, the individual, with a setting in which to consistently address those issues which have become and remain stumbling blocks to creating the life you want.

The therapeutic setting is unusual in that you are able to not only grapple with understanding an issue, but also to confront the emotions behind it that are blocking you from breaking through that issue and moving on.

Individual therapy can help to relieve the emotional stress of a hectic life.
